Serve-a-thon 2010 concludes with various projects throughout San Diego county.  In this episode of the Volunteer San Diego Podcast, we stopped by Dewey Elementary School in Point Loma.  Principal Tanya Belsan discusses the volunteer project, and joins volunteers painting a new mural in front of the school.

Harmonium, Inc. hosted several projects throughout the county with gardening, painting, and clean-up projects.  We visited Loma Portal Elementary School where an outdoor science center was being crafted by several volunteers.  Rosa Ana Lozada, CEO of Harmonium, provided some opening remarks for the day at this project.  We also were able to catch up with Sue Carter, CEO of Volunteer San Diego, to wrap up the two-day event.

Want to get involved?  Check out our website at www.volunteersandiego.org, or give us a call at 858-300-3280. You don't need to wait for Serve-a-thon next year to get started.  Volunteers are needed throughout the year, and provide a great impact to our San Diego community.

We launched Serve-a-thon 2010 with over 20 excellent projects and will mobilize over 1000 volunteers during the event.  In this episode of the Volunteer San Diego Podcast, San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts and Hal Clement from ABC Channel 10 San Diego join us at our school makeover project at Innovations Academy Charter School.  The day opened with proclamations from Mayor Jerry Saunder's office, and a proclamation from Ron Roberts declaring it Serve-a-thon Day.

In my travels throughout many of the projects today, I also had a chat with Valerie Brown of RB United, and site captain Seth Connolly, of the Seniors Oral History project.  At this project, a digital record of interviews with seniors were performed by volunteers.
