In this episode of the Volunteer San Diego Podcast, Sue Carter and I focus on volunteer engagement in non-profit organizations.  Sue recently led a workshop with the San Diego Foundation discussing volunteer engagement in the current economic climate.  Sue shares some of the strategies that can help make non-profit agencies more successful by engaging volunteers as part of the organization.

For our many non-profit agency partners, Volunteer San Diego has a Brown Bag Lunch Series on January 21, 2009 at 11:45am.  This facilitated discussion is designed for volunteer managers.  The upcoming session will discuss how to develop a case for support of volunteers and a volunteer program in a non-profit organization.  Our annual Volunteer Management training is scheduled for January 28 and 29, 2009.  This training is a great way to provide a foundation to develop volunteer programs in your non-profit agency.

For more information about our training programs or information on how we can help you support your non-profit agency, check out our website at www.volunteersandiego.org, or give us a call at 858-636-4131.

Casey DeLorme and Brent Shintani wrap up 2008 with a conversation about various topics in volunteerism in this special extended version of the Volunteer San Diego Podcast.  We discuss many non-traditional volunteer activities, including utilizing volunteering as a career transition and utilizing business skills such as Marketing or Project Management in volunteer activities.  Casey highlights a recent presentation by Sue Carter, Executive Director of Volunteer San Diego, discussing volunteerism in our current economic downturn.  Brent highlights some of the pioneering efforts in social media as a marketing tool for the organization, including our presence on Facebook, MySpace, and appearances on blogs and podcasts.  We also discuss our recent introduction of Volunteer San Diego to the world of Twitter.
